MSTRKRFT | Priceless

I had the pleasure of putting this video together for EDM  heroes MSTRKRFT.    In May, after returning from the Death From Above / Eagles of Death Metal / Biblical tour, I had a week booked at Union Sound Company to complete vocals for our new record.

MSTRKRFT mixed their new record Operator at Union, and while there I saw a print of that that amazing hi-con, General Patton-esque graphic of the two of them. So when Last Gang asked me to submit a concept for the video, I knew exactly what I wanted to do.

I love the propulsive drum machine patterns in this song. They inspired me to use video loops to match the rhythms with hypnotic visuals.  We actually went through several concepts for the type. My original idea was more bold and graphic, but I’m really happy where we ended up—stark and utilitarian.

Here is one of the style boards I submitted to the label. It’s quite a bit more design-y that the video itself, but it totally set the tone for the making the piece.

Lastly, give a hand to Mr. Sonny Kay on vocals for this tune. His work in the The VSS, Angel Hair and Gold Standard Laboratories counts as some serious scene-building.
