This rollicking biography of Canadian Supreme Court Justice Rosalie Abella details her amazing journey from humble beginnings to human rights crusader atop Canada’s highest court. Director Barry Avrich deftly covers all her landmark legal rulings and achievements, while never failing to put her charming and generally funny personality front and centre. As usual, I handled on screen graphics, including cutting and comping this title sequence. Justice Abella is a huge fan of broadway (as evidenced by her office at the end of the titles) and thought it would be good fun to give her the Gershwin treatment.

Bonus: at the Hot Docs premiere, we were all treated to a special guest: US Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. Justice Sotomayor joined the Q&A following the screening, and a lively discussion ensued with many laugh out loud moments, discussing legal issues and the politics of the day.
