The Unsolved Murder of Beverly Lynn Smith is a 4 x 1 hour doc, exploring a 50 year old case. While particulars of the mystery will tantalize true crime fans, the show gradually unfurls into a fascinating exploration of character, memory, the nature of guilt and what constitutes fair game in an investigation.

After working For Heaven’s Sake, I was thrilled to reunite with Muse Entertainment on for this project. Much like FHS, there was a huge archive of material to work with — photos, documents and clippings. Working with director Natalie Bibeau (a Sugar Coated alumnus!), we crafted a visual language for elements to help orient the story across decades, taking cues from both the interviews and recreations.

The Unsolved Murder of Beverly Lynn Smith is premiering at Hot Docs April 30th and will be streaming worldwide on Amazon Prime in May!
